Top 5 Ways to Treat Yo' Self This Valentine's Day

I’m a firm believer that Valentine’s Day is not just about the couples. It’s about celebrating love of all kinds, including love for yourself, your friends, your family and everyone who brings joy into your life. I hope that no matter where you are on the 14th, you find time to celebrate yourself and show some love to the most important people (& pets) in your life.

If you are looking for a fun way to treat yourself this Valentine's Day (that doesn’t involve trying to make a dinner reservation on the 14th) check out my top 5 below.

5 WAYS TO TREAT YO' SELF THIS VALENTINE'S DAY

  1. Lymphatic Draining Massage - I know, I know - treating yourself to a massage is not the most original idea, but hear me out. I tried it last year right before leaving for a trip to Greece, and I have to say, the results were insane! My whole body felt lighter and I think I peed out like 5 pounds of water weight haha. Click here for the before & afters! While my discount code was only active for 2023, mention my name when you book & Val will look after you! After the holiday season, this massage might be just what you need!

  2. Happy Hour with your Gal Pals - Avoid the Valentine’s Day dinner rush and plan a fun happy hour with your gal pals on Galentine’s Day (the 13th). On my recent trip to New York, I planned a happy hour for our Gals Abroad Getaways community. Chatting with all these strong, independent women, really left me feeling so inspired. If you live in the Chicagoland area - here are some links to my favorite cocktail spots to grab a drink with your Gal Pal:

Pigtail - They make the BEST espresso martini I have ever had & its not at all what you’d expect

Le Colonial - This is my go to spot for impressing out of town guests. But the bar is SUCH a fab spot to enjoy a drink & the ONLY one I ever order is their lychee martini. It’s a problem how yummy they are haha

Arbella - I love their globally inspired cocktail menu & their bar bites are SUPER yummy too!

  3. Book a Photoshoot - Listen, there is something SO fabulous and self-indulgent about booking a photoshoot just for the hell of it. You get dressed up, maybe even get your hair and makeup done and pretend like you’re a supermodel (at least that sounds fun to me haha). I LOVE to use Flytographer to book photoshoots when I’m traveling (but they have tons of photographers in the US too!). Use code ALLE50 for $50 off your shoot. Or if you’re based in Chicago, The Studio Chicago is hosting their annual Valentine’s Day Mini Sessions on Feb 10 & 11 - and there are still spots available!

  4. Upgrade Your Luggage - Investing in quality luggage is one of those gifts that keeps giving. If you have travel planned for 2024, treat yourself NOW to new luggage, so you aren’t forced to make it work with mediocre luggage later! I’ve tried several brands throughout the years, and I’ve found Away Luggage to be my tried and true. Mostly because of their unbeatable lifetime warranty (aka you break it, they replace it) & their functional design. These suitcases have been with me through nearly 30 countries in the last 4 years so…I’d say they hold up. They are dropping a Barbie Pink suitcase on Tuesday & I'm already drooling haha. Here’s $20 off your order!

  5. Gals Abroad Getaways Trip - Shameless plug I know… but you have to admit, isn’t traveling the ultimate form of self care? We have so many exciting trips coming up in 2024, with registration opening for three European trips this month (including our Virgin Voyage to the South of France & Spain which launched this week!!) Be ready to “BOOK THE TRIP” and see the world in 2024 - in Gals Abroad Getaways style. If you are interested in traveling with independent, luxury loving women, make sure you are on our Gals Abroad Getaways newsletter list (if different than this one), where you will get exclusive news on upcoming trips and early bird pricing.

2023 GIFT GUIDE: Alle's A-List + Cyber Week Deals

IT’S TIMEEEEEEEEEEEE (SANG LIKE Mariah Carey)

The holiday shopping season is once again upon us which means I am once again scrambling to put together a gift guide. With this year’s travel schedule, I’ve completely lost track of time, the holidays and if I’m honest, days of the week [I know you can relate].

The other day I heard a lady in Target say that she had all of her Christmas shopping done and my head nearly exploded until I realized that it wasn’t September anymore (lol).

So to keep things simple & straightforward, I’m making one GIANT gift guide this year that will be jam-packed with all of my favorite things (think of this as the holiday version of Alle’s A-List). This guide features items that are my tried and true go-tos that will make for PERFECT gifts for all the gals in your life. PLUS you’ll find discount codes sprinkled throughout the guide to make sure to keep an eye out for those!

It is always my intention to include not only my favorite things but also recommendations at all price points from small, women, POC, and LGTBQ-owned businesses. You’ll find a mix of everything in this guide but if you’re looking to only shop small this year (GO YOU!), make sure to check out my Small Biz Holiday Shopping Guide.

As a reminder, this guide contains affiliate links. This means that if you purchase through my gift guide, I might earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As a small woman-owned business, the income I earn through these links allows me to continue sharing these free guides & continue to run Alle Abroad. As always, I am so grateful for your continued support & I’m excited to introduce you to some of my favorite brands.

PS - If you see any incorrect links, shoot me a DM on Instagram and let me know :)

Away Luggage Set

I’ve been traveling with my Away luggage for more than 2 years now and I cannot say enough great things about this brand. They are so durable, come in amazing colors, the roll like butter and I know I can depend on them to keep my goods safe while I’m traveling around the world.

They have tons of luggage sizes, tote bags, packing cubes, backpacks etc. And don’t forget to use my discount!

Bucket List Book

The idea of crafting your bucket list can feel totally overwhelming, which is why many of us never even start one. That’s where this book comes in! The Bucket List book is filled with 1,000 adventures stretching across the globe and includes everything from walking along the Great Wall of China & truffle hunting with pigs in Italy.

I’ve taken to opening this book each day and randomly picking 1 experience to read about. If it sounds interesting, I add it to my Bucket List Journal!

Tumi Voyageur Backpack

I’ve had this backpack for 4 years now and I really can’t say enough good things about it. Tumi truly knows what it’s doing and even though it’s a splurge, you’ll have it for years and it will truly stand the test of time. Plus it comes in a few different colors (which is something they just offered).

Also, some colors are on sale ;)

Stoney Clover Lane

I am OBSESSED with this colorful, customizable accessories brand! Their pouches, passport cases, luggage tags and backpacks make for totally unique gifts for the jet setter in your life! Especially because you can customize them to say anything! This is the company I used to make my Alle Abroad backpack!

TOPTOTE Hat Holder

I love my hats, but traveling with them can sometimes be a pain. But when you’ve got a TOPTOTE all your travel hat woes are solved. The powerful magnet clips onto the brim of the hat and attaches to your bag or suitcase. I never travel without mine.

My Bucket List Journal

I am a firm believer that if you don’t make a plan to achieve your goals, you never will. The same can be said about items on your bucket list.

This journal helps you do exactly that. The pages are organized to help you plan out 100 of your biggest bucket list dreams & journal about the experience when you complete them. This would be the perfect gift for a newly retired parent or anyone looking to plot out their dreams.

Whether you’re juggling a bunch of bags at the airport or trying to balance taking photos on your camera & iPhone, having your phone handy around your shoulders is such a game changer.

These cases come in tons of styles, colors and even have handy little purse, pouch and airpod case attachments.

A Farm Rio Gift Card

If I had to pick one brand to wear for the rest of my life, it would be Farm Rio. They have some of the best quality colorful dresses, swimwear, shoes, and coats (their puffers are totally worth the investment).

They are also a sustainable brand that plants a tree in the Amazon Rainforest for every purchase.

Ps they’re currently offering 30% off their new arrivals

My very dear Gal Pal Kelly designed an accessories collection that is BEYOND adorable. This swan clutch is one of my favorites & I also have the swan earrings she’s wearing in this photo.

This is the perfect line for any glam gal in your life!

The most extra robe

This is VERY much a splurge. But if you love pink as much as I do (or know someone who loves pink and feathers) this would be the most incredible gift.

And if it helps at all….it’s on sale.

Waterproof Sandals

I swear by these! I wear them EVERYWHERE and can walk around for hours in them.

They come in a million colors and aren’t too expensive.

Anyone you gift these shoes to will be thanking you for many years because they are easily the most comfortable sandals - great for travel.

Friendship Bracelets

For the Swifty in your life [IYKYK]. You can even make custom bracelets!

Sleeper Feather PJs

If you are looking to splurge on a fancy pair of PJS I cannot recommend these Sleeper PJS enough (plus I found a few pairs that are on MAJOR sale).

I own them in pink & green but they come in a bunch of colors and the black pair could be a perfect chic going-out look.

Rothy’s Driver

Linda LOVES her Drivers becuase they are such a great versatile shoe option - especially for travel! They come in a bunch of colors and the best part is they can be thrown in the washing machine to clean!

Cashmere Lined Leather Gloves

The hardest part about wearing gloves is that you have to take them off anytime you want to use your phone. Not with this pair. They work incredibly well and come in two different colors.

Mongolian Cashmere Wrap

I am obsessed with Quince, which is this company that has ridiculously low prices on 100% cashmere and other great basics. Basically, they cut out the middle man, deliver straight from the factory and cut down on packaging. Which means amazing cashmere goodies at prices you actually don’t mind paying.

I snagged this cashmere wrap in black and I love their Mongolian cashmere sweater that comes in a bunch of colors and is on sale

PS - the wrap is 31% off ;)

REVELLE

This jewelry line was created by my sweet friend Ali Stone & her mom (we love a mom-daughter duo!). Their gorgeous, delicate necklaces make for the perfect heartfelt gift and pair perfectly with some of your favorite necklaces you have at home.

Their jewelry is high quality & comes in a range of prices and styles which makes them SUPER giftable (and you won’t feel guilty when you snag a few for yourself too!)

Colorful Beanie

This is such a cute & affordable stocking stuffer. Comes in a bunch of colors & the price is so good that you should totally snag one for yourself too.

Over the Knee Boots

I wore these all throughout Italy and they were incredibly comfortable. They even passed the “worn out until 3 a.m.” test lol. They’re chic & pair perfectly with skirts, dresses and the leather shorts and tights trend that’s hot right now.

Plus they look exactly like the $700 version but are WAY less than that.

Reef Cushion Rem

I LIVED in these sandals all summer long. They are so incredibly comfortable and perfect for the Barbie gal in your life.

Beaded Coin Purses

This is what I use for my wallet because it’s wayyy more fun than a normal wallet lol. Plus when you’re traveling abroad and dealing with coins it’s SUPER helpful.

ALLE’S FAVORITE SELF CARE GIFTS

54 Thrones Hand + Body Butter

I’ve been a fan of this brand since 2020, especially because they source African-grown organic botanicals from artisans across the continent. Shea butter from Ghana and Uganda, argan oil from Morocco and Jasmine from Egypt. It’s a fun way to infuse travel into your self care routine.

The 5-Minute Journal

If you’ve been wanting to start a gratitude practice but are unsure of where to start or what to write this journal will be your new best friend. I love how it has quick and simple prompts to keep you grateful, focused and centered on what you want to accomplish. This is the perfect gift for anyone wanting to work on mindfulness in the new year.

I honestly feel a little off if I don’t start and end my day writing in my journal…and I NEVER thought I’d be the kind of person who would say that…

Gucci Flora

Gifting fragrance is a tricky matter (so maybe this is a gift for yourself lol). But I LOVE how fresh and floral this is and it comes in SO many different sizes so you can test it out with a smaller bottle before you go in for the splurge!

The Instant Facelift Kit

I’m obsessed with my ice roller (especially after a night of drinking) and this female founder has made the most luxurious face tools that are not only practical & totally work but look chic too.

A Cozy Robe

There’s nothing better than lounging around at home with your favorite robe. Nothing is more cuddly and cozy than this Skims robe. I have SO many of their lounge sets and they are the first thing I grab when I’m having a lazy day or when I’m getting out of bed in the morning and am a bit cold.

Mani & Pedi Set

Olive & June is my go to for at home nails. We always gift our gals their polish on our trips & I LOVE how simple and fun they make doing your nails at home. Plus they make super fun press-ons which make for great stocking stuffers.

Custom Claw Clips

The grip these clips have on our society right now is WILD haha. But this is SUCH a fun gift idea & also shockingly affordable.

Megababe Mini Set

A great gift for the gal who is always on the go or someone who is brand new to the Megababe world. This is my FAVORITE natural deodorant brand and their anti-friction stick is a staple in my travel bag.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Trio

I’m obsessed with this cleansing balm. It’s totally changed my skincare routine & helped me break up with the evil makeup wipes [lol]. This would be great for any skincare nut or someone who is looking to up-level their routine.

YSL Lipstick

This is truly the most luxe lipstick I’ve ever owned. It comes in a ton of shades and anyone you gift it to will feel extra special.

ALLE’S FAVORITE EXPERIENCE GIFTS

A Gals Abroad Getaways Trip

I can’t think of a better gift to give than the gift of travel. If you or someone you love is looking to see the world with fellow like-minded women in 2024 and beyond give them the gift of a Gals Abroad Getaway (or offer to pay for a portion of their trip).

Every Christmas I ask my parents for one thing, money to put towards a future trip and this could be the year you do the same!

PS - we are offering our very first Black Friday deal from 11/17-11/24 on our 1st 2 trips of 2024.

Airbnb Experiences

Airbnb experiences are my secret weapon on any trip. From booking tours, photographers, bar crawls, Airbnb has the most unique experiences. In 2020 they launched online experiences which means you can have an international experiences from anywhere in the world! A great group gift idea for the family!

Storyworth Subscription

I gifted this to both of my parents two years ago and it’s such a fun way for them to write their own life story via a weekly email with question prompts for them to respond to. At the end of the year, all of their stories are bound in a book that your family will want to keep forever.

Your fav Hometown Comfort Food

Goldbelly will ship anything from Gooey Butter Cake, Pink’s Hot Dogs, & Lou Malnati’s Pizza to your door. This would be a great gift for anyone who recently moved away & is missing home.

ALLE’S FAVORITE HOME GIFTS

Hotel Lobby Candle

If you love to travel and are always asking the hotel what signature scent they’re pumping through their property this small biz candle company is for you.

Inspired by the founder’s international travels and love for a signature hotel fragrance - this candle company was born.

I recently turned Linda onto this brand and she LOVES their signature scent. Their holiday collection has 3 scents depending on your preference and I can’t say enough about how GREAT these candles smell.

Around the World in 80 Cocktails

This has quickly become my go-to “thank you” or hostess gift for fellow travel lovers! And since it’s just over $15 I think it makes for a fantastically affordable gift! But if you want to take it over the top, it would be fun to pick a cocktail from the book and gift all the ingredients you need to make the cocktail + the book!

Agate Cheese Board

A few years ago I bought myself and my aunt and cousin these gilded cheese boards and they are the perfect gift of anyone who loves a boujee cheese board.

I keep it on my bar cart and use it as a place to display all my cocktail-making items until I use it for a cheese board.

This would be a fabulous gift for your mum, gal pals or anyone else who loves entertaining.

Estelle Colored Glass

I’ve had my eyes on these colored wine glasses for years and I love how you can mix and match colors & glass styles.

The company describes their pieces as “jewels for your table,” and was inspired by the founder’s grandmother, Estelle, who loved antiquing.

Nespresso Machine

For the coffee lover in your life, no house is complete without one of these. After coming home from multiple trips to Europe and desperately missing the taste of delicious coffee, I knew I needed to get my hands on a Nespresso machine. I haven’t regretted the purchase since.

Plus this one is currently on sale!

Better than a Stanley Cup

This cup never leaves my side when I’m home and it’s significantly less expensive than those dumb Stanley cups.

PLUS - it’s on sale right now so it’s even more affordable.

A Slip Silk Pillowcase

This is such a luxe gift & perfect for anyone who takes their skincare routine very seriously. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase will help to prevent wrinkles and also not soak up all the lotions and serums you put on your face before bed.

ALLE’S FAVORITE TECH GIFTS

Noise Canceling Headphones

Anyone who gets these will LOVE you forever - especially travel lovers who don’t like to hear babies crying on planes ;)

No matter if you’re on a short flight or a long-haul flight the most essential item you can have is a pair of noise-canceling headphones.

I was a long-time Airpods pro gal (which are totally great) but these really changed the game and the battery lasts forever.

PS - they’re currently on sale!

Custom Phone Case

I just upgraded my iPhone so it it’s time to upgrade my case and I love that you can customize what the case says - I went with ABROAD on one and BRB on the other.

These are a fun gift for gals pals, a friend who has their own brand lingo or anyone who loves to have their name on things haha.

Audible Membership

Linda and I are both HUGE advocates of audiobooks which are great to listen to when you’re driving, on a long flight, or even doing chores around the house. You can select the number of months & credits you’d like to gift in their gift center to customize the gift even more.

Portable Power Bank

This might seem like a boring gift but honestly, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. This is one of the best & most powerful portable chargers I’ve ever owned. Plus these are essential for travel.

Apple Airtags

This would be a great stocking stuffer for any travel lover. These are SO important if your suitcase gets lost while traveling. I have SO many friends who have used these to show the airline where their bag is when they deny they have it…

Bluetooth Wireless Audio Transmitter

THIS IS A LONG-HAUL FLIGHT GAME CHANGER & ANOTHER GREAT STOCKING STUFFER.

For anyone who uses noise-canceling headphones on flights, this solves the problem of being able to connect them to the airplane TV.

The Instax Mini

These are SO much fun for travel! Plus these would also be fun to have on hand for any holiday party.

Flash Drive for Iphone

For the person in your life who has WAYYYY to many photos on their phone and is constantly running out of space.

25+ Practical and cute gifts for your cat (or crazy cat mom friend)

Holiday shopping can be stressful. There’s a lot of pressure when it comes to finding the perfect gift for the people we love the most. But if you’re looking for the ultimate stress-free gift buying experience, well it has to be shopping for your kitty (or crazy cat lady friend).

Let’s be honest, if you’re a crazy cat mom or dad, you probably spoil your fur baby all year long but the holiday season is just another excuse to buy your kitty a toy they will likely will turn their nose up at and opt for the Amazon box instead lol.

But still, half the fun is the hunt for that hilariously cute and hopefully somewhat practical gift.

And as the proud mother of four cats and someone who’s grown up with these finicky felines, I know a thing or two about gifting your cats the perfect holiday present.

Plus, if you still need to get a gift for your mom or daughter or the travel lover in your life, I’ve got a slew of gift guides ready and waiting for you!

25 of the best gifts to get your cat or crazy cat loving friend

Catnip Cigars

My cats go absolutely NUTS for these. I get them new ones each year and they spend Christmas morning drooling over them.

Plus they’re less than $10!

  • A rainbow string cat wand - some of my cats prefer to chase a string vs a flying feather and this $5 wand from Amazon is a crowd favorite.

  • But for those kitties that are more of the feather persuasion - this toy is a classic.

  • It’s basically a fact that cats always ignore fancy, plush toys in favor of the most basic, inexpensive thing that really isn’t a toy at all (ever left an Amazon box lying around?!) The Cat Dancer (lol to the name) is as basic as it gets and costs less than $3. So it’s essentially science that your cat will love it.

Pop culture Catnip toys

This company makes some of the funniest food-themed cat toys but these taco sauces have to be my fav haha.

Kitty Water Fountain

Making sure your cats always have fresh water is ESSENTIAL and this fountain is the Rolls Royce of cat water fountains - do you see those different levels and that spot for cat grass?!?!

Splurge-Worthy Cat Toy

Okay, this toy is $111 (lolz) but it’s so cute and can almost pass as an art piece?! Plus you’re supporting a small business when you shop!

Sushi Cat Bed

This bed has me ROLLING with laughter and in all honesty, your cat will still want to sleep in a cardboard box over this one but damn will this look awesome in your house.

GIFTS FOR THE CRAZY CAT PERSON IN YOUR LIFE

Custom Embroidered Sweatshirt

This would be the BEST gift for your fellow crazy cat mom or dad. You can include up to two pets and even add their names if you want. Each portrait is hand-drawn and stitched based on a photograph you submit.

I am 100% getting one fo these for me!

Royal Cat Portrait

Let’s be honest, you already treat your cat like a King/Queen so why not make it official with a portrait?! LOLZ.

Dancing with Cats Book

Yes…this is a real thing hahaha. The book is full of hilarious photos of people and cats doing their favorite dance routines and I am RUNNING to buy this for every cat lover in my life right now haha.

The #GalsAbroad Gift Guide: (50+ ideas for my travel loving gals)

It truly seems like every year the holidays start earlier and earlier (anyone notice the Christmas trees up at Halloween?! lol) which means inevitably holiday shopping starts earlier as well - cue the panic buying. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

I find that if I carve out a few hours on a cozy weekend, pour a glass of wine, put on Gilmore Girls and crank out all my online shopping the entire experience can be a fun one - especially with a trusty gift guide.

That’s where I come in.

For the travel lover in your life (even if that’s you) I’ve spent the last several years basically being a human guinea pig for all the latest and greatest travel goodies. Testing these items on the road and recommending all the products I never travel without or my favorite travel beauty goods.

So when it comes time to put together a gift guide of all the best travel gifts, well I’ve been training for this moment for years lol.

From a travel sized sound machine to the most comfortable travel lounge sets and PJs these travel-themed gifts will make any travel lover want to pack their bags on the spot and head out on their next great adventure!

A really great travel book

If there’s one thing I’m constantly googling it’s “What to read on vacation” or “best travel books”.

Lucky for you I’ve rounded up a list of all my favorite travel reads & linked them in one post.

  • They need this handy gadget so they can watch their favorite show or movies on the plane without having to hold their phone the entire time.

  • This scarf feels like cashmere without the cashmere price

  • This book of 1,000 bucket list ideas is sure to spark some serious wanderlust. I reference it any time I want some new ideas on where to go next.

  • An Audible membership. Linda and I are both HUGE advocates of audiobooks which are great to listen to when you’re on a road trip, a long flight, or even doing chores around the house. You can select the number of months & credits you’d like to gift in their gift center to customize the gift even more.

  • Under eye patches - these are fabulous to put on during a flight or after a long one (great stocking stuffer)

  • This Dishoom Cookbook - this is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in London and now they’ve come out with a recipe book. This would be a great gift for any Indian food lover!

  • Behind the Bar: 50 Cocktail Recipes from the World's Most Iconic Hotels - for all my traveling cocktail connoisseurs

  • I absolutely adore Sabina Fenn’s watercolor prints which are a thoughtful gift to remind them of a trip they recently took or a place they want to visit someday.

A Rent the Runway Subscription

I’ve been using Rent the Runway since my TV news days (2016) and I swear by it for EVERY aspect of my life but especially for my travels. I love that no matter where I’m going I can rent outfits for the occasion rather than buying a new outfit.

I’ve saved more than 100K using this service (what I would have spent if I purchased all the clothes I’ve rented) and I feel like this is the new way to enjoy fashion.

PS as always I have a code (RTRALLEP) that takes 40% off two months of your subscription (that takes an 8-item plan down to $86 per month)!

  • The BEST travel sunhat - I have it in many colors and it’s super flattering

  • These SUPER soft pants & t-shirt make for the perfect travel lounge set

  • The clip I use to carry all my hats when I travel

  • Any traveler who wants to use their own AirPods to watch movies on the plane will LOVE this gadget

  • Travel tech case to keep cords and chargers organized

  • Apple mag safe battery pack - this is probably one of the most important travel essentials. I NEVER travel without one of these and I love that this one just attaches to the back of your phone.

  • Hotel Lobby Candle - If you love to travel and are always asking the hotel what signature scent they’re pumping through their property this small biz candle company is for you.

  • This self-cleaning water bottle is PERFECT for any gal looking to swap plastic for something that’s better for the environment.

  • A great cross-body bag for the plane - these are perfect for storing the things you need to reach immediately

  • A Kindle for your bookworm traveler so they can travel with all their favorite books without taking up any precious space

  • UGG slippers - I don’t like to chance the hotel having nice slippers handy (plus they always kinda suck anyways) so I come prepared with these cuddly slippers

  • This pink weekender bag is by one of my favorite celebs who has carved a niche in the travel market and it’s not hard to understand why. Perfect for slipping on top of your carry-on while moving through the airport.

A Getaway with Getaway House

This is one of the greatest gifts I gave myself at the beginning of the year. A creative getaway to the woods where I could read, goal set and envision what I wanted out of 2022.

These tiny cabins are the perfect place to disconnect and focus on getting back to basics.

Getaway has outposts all across the USA and there are two near the Chicagoland area.

I put together a video to showcase the entire Getaway House experience below!

A Gals Abroad Getaways Trip

I can’t think of a better gift to give than the gift of travel. If you or someone you love is looking to see the world with fellow like-minded women in 2023 and beyond give them the gift of a Gals Abroad Getaway (or offer to pay for a portion of their trip)

ALLE’S PICKS OVER $100

Estelle Colored Glass

I’ve had my eyes on these colored wine glasses for years and I love how you can mix and match colors & glass styles.

The company describes their pieces as “jewels for your table,” and was inspired by the founder’s grandmother, Estelle, who loved antiquing.

I’ve been traveling with my Away luggage for more than a year now and I cannot say enough great things about this brand. They are so durable, come in amazing colors, the roll like butter and I know I can depend on them to keep my goods safe while I’m traveling around the world.

They have tons of luggage sizes, tote bags, packing cubes, backpacks etc. And don’t forget to use my discount!

  • I recently became a new follower of this swimwear brand that has a cult like following (lol) and I swear to you I’ve never felt better in a swimsuit. I know this is a random gift but a gift card to this website would be a PERFECT gift (even if its for yourself!) Oh and they’re doing 30% off sitewide right now!

Lashify at home lash extensions

I have found the secret to having beautiful lashes without having to put on strip lashes every day or pay CRAZY amounts of money for salon extensions - MEET LASHIFY.

These are my new obsession. They are easy to apply - trust me I’m certainly no pro - and after you buy your control kit, I spend no more than $40 on lashes and you can skip your order any time.

There are tons of styles for bold, subtle or luscious lashes and the founder is someone who prides herself on coming up with a solution that doesn’t harm your actual lashes.

Every Christmas I ask my parents for one thing, money to put towards a future trip and this could be the year you do the same!

Jo Malone Gift Set

Linda LOVES Jo Malone fragrances and one of the gifts she gives to herself every holiday season is the latest Jo Malone gift set. The scents are long lasting, refreshing and never overpowering.

LINDA’S PICKS UNDER $100

Hotel Lobby Candle

If you love to travel and are always asking the hotel what signature scent they’re pumping through their property this small biz candle company is for you.

Inspired by the founders international travels and love for a signature hotel fragrance - this candle company was born.

I recently turned Linda onto this brand and she LOVES their signature scent. Their holiday collection has 3 scents depending on your preference and I can’t say enough about how GREAT these candles smell.

  • If you’re looking for a gift for the outdoor enthusiast gal in your life, getting them a National Parks Pass would be a truly practical and thoughtful gift (Each pass covers entrance fees at national parks and national wildlife refuges)

KREWE Sunglasses

These are sunglasses worth splurging on. I’ve seen Linda eyeing mine and I’m thinking that she might find these under the tree for her this year.

They’re a New Orleans based company and have quickly become my new favorite sunglass brand.

Give the gift of travel

If there’s someone in your life {maybe you} who is itching to plan their next trip, but overwhelmed by the task, let me suggest purchasing a gift certificate to my mom’s travel agency, Scorby Travel & Cruise.

Small Business Holiday Shopping Guide

SMALL BIZ HOLIDAY GUIDE.png

The holiday shopping season can easily spiral into a crazed sprint to buy ALL THE THINGS if we aren’t intentional with our gift-giving (at least this is the case for me). Ever since the pandemic, I’ve made a concerted effort to support as many small businesses as possible during the holidays and beyond.

As a small business owner myself, I know just how meaningful it is to have the support of loyal customers and clients and how even just one purchase or word of mouth recomendation can truly make all the difference in the world.

Every year I update this guide to shine a spotlight on my favorite small businesses and brands that I love to shop during the holiday season. This list is a mix of Chicago brick-and-mortar stores (with online shops) and online boutiques from across the country (many of them are also personal friends).

CHECK OUT MY CHICAGO SMALL BIZ HOLIDAY SHOPPING GUIDE VIDEO BELOW

CHICAGO SMALL BUSINESSES

CHICAGO SMALL BIZ 10.JPG

ALICE & WONDER

My love affair with this female owned, Lincoln Park boutique goes wayyyy back and it’s easily my favorite place to shop in Chicago. This is the spot to find fun, feminine, & cheeky gifts that are for the most part under $100. Make sure to check out their Mad Hatter & Chicago collections which are made in house (great gifts for guys & little ones).

CHICAGO SMALL BIZ 26.JPG

FOURSIDED

Hands down the most aesthetically pleasing gift shop I have ever stepped foot in. This store is literally overflowing with art, antiques, curated gifts and also specializes in custom framing. If you’re looking for a one stop shop to check everyone off your list, THIS IS THE PLACE. Foursided has 4 shops (2 gift & 2 custom framing) located across the north side of Chicago but you can also check them out online!

CHICAGO SMALL BIZ 4.JPG

CHICAGO FRENCH PRESS

If you have a coffee lover in your life, trust me, you need to get them some CFP! This female, Black owned business sells freshly roasted coffee in the most unique and delicious flavors like Chocolate Blueberry and Maple Pecan. CFP offers coffee for different brewing methods and you can also check out their subscriptions (which I think would make an awesome gift! You can stop by their pop up at the Roosevelt Collection which will be open through 2020 (1021 S Delano Ct) or shop them online!

CHICAGO SMALL BIZ 32.JPG

NOMAD Chicago

This female founded, globally inspired shop is one of my favorite places to one of a kind, handmade goodies from around the world. What makes NOMAD so unique is its commitment to selling fair trade items in small batches at prices that are fair to the artists that craft these pieces. You’ll find everything from natural beauty products to Chicago neighborhood scented candles (yup that’s a thing). Plus next to each of the items you’ll find a card that shares more about where the product is from and the person who made it. OOOO and NOMAD also has a cafe and meeting space so you can sip some coffee while you shop!

CHICAGO SMALL BIZ 49.JPG

Lost Girls Vintage

Find me a more fun, colorful & totally bad ass store…I’ll wait…LOL. Lost Girls is hands down the #1 place I shop for vintage items in Chicago. Outside of their vintage goodies, you’ll also find jewelry & accessories crafted by local artists & a plus size vintage line, Luvsick, that carries sizes 14-26. The shop was founded by two bad a$$ women and at the beginning run out of a winnebago LOL. Now you can find them at one of their two locations in West Town & Logan Square or online at the link below!

IMG_6261.JPG

RAYGUN

Raygun affectionately refers to itself as “The Greatest Store in the Universe” and I would have to agree. At this Andersonville shop you’ll find everything from graphic tees (that’s what they’re known for) to masks, socks, books, mugs, basically anything you can screen print on. But what I love so much about this store is that many of their items give back to charitable causes like education reform, equality, a clean environment, etc. This is the spot to shop for the socially conscious person in your life.

Every Christmas I ask my parents for one thing, money to put towards a future trip and this could be the year you do the same!

SMALL BIZ 1.png

REVELLE

This jewelry line was created by my sweet friend Ali Stone & her mom (we love a mom daughter duo!). Their gorgeous, delicate necklaces make for the perfect heartfelt gift and pair perfectly with some of your favorite necklaces you have at home. Their jewelry is high quality & comes in a range of prices and styles which makes them SUPER giftable (and you won’t feel guilty when you snag a few for yourself too!) OOO & they’re doing a Black Friday Sale RN that you don’t want to miss!

SMALL BIZ 2.png

In Emily’s Kitchen

You know what everyone needs?! A quality spice blend (or two, or 10)! My girl Emily has created her own line of signature spice blends that will save you so much time and stress in the kitchen. PLUS she has so many yummy recipes on her site that pair perfectly with each of her blends. AND she’s currently offering a limited edition holiday spice set featuring 3 blends you absolutely need for your festive feasts.

TRAVEL SCENTED CANDLES?!?! YUP! I just discovered this female owned, Chicago biz that makes small batch, hand poured candles inspired by some of the world’s most beautiful destinations. I can’t wait to try their Notting Hill & Hallstatt candles (two of my absolute favorite places in Europe). These are the perfect gift for any travel lover in your life

MY PICKS!

Styled By Carson Love

With the new year right around the corner (thank God) I feel like now is always the time we think about cleaning out our closets or updating our lewks. A super fun gift idea (even for yourself) would be to book a virtual call with my best friend/stylist Carson Love. She offers a virtual closet detox, style consultations, personal shopping, etc. mixed with her infectious southern charm that instantly makes you feel like you’re best friends (I’m willing to share ;)

SMALL BIZ 3.png

Type League Press

Nothing brings me more joy than receiving a fun and festive mug (especially if it says something funny on it). You have to check out this female owned, Chicago based biz on Etsy! She has so many mugs with funny sayings and can do custom orders if you’re looking to put your loved ones name or faces on the side LOL.

MY PICKS!

Julia Clancey

By far one of my favorite designers - Julia Clancey is a color-loving, caftan-creating, turban-wearing queen! The PERFECT gift this year would be to give any color lover in your life one of her EPIC designs. Seriously they’re head turners and I have both of this fringy frou frous pictured on the right.

PS - she makes the most epic sleep masks and turbans.

Screen Shot 2020-11-25 at 12.48.32 PM.png

Lula Flora

If you’re looking to spice up your gift wrapping this year or your home decor, you’ve gotta check out this female owned, mini piñata company (it’s totally a thing)! They make the cutest pinatas for all sorts of occasions and I love to add them to gifts I wrap as a fun little treat! Their llamas are my personal fav.

MY PICKS!

Screen Shot 2020-11-25 at 1.59.54 PM.png

Bouffants & Broken Hearts

I discovered this EPIC Black, female artist the summer of 2020 and quickly ran to her Society6 page to buy 6 of her prints to decorate my office with. To say I’m in love is an understatement. Her sassy, colorful prints are reasonably priced and would make for a great gift for the color lover in your life!

Somewhere in between coaching

I believe firmly in the power and wisdom of a good coach and if there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s the abilities of my amazing friend and career coach Neha. If you or a loved one is struggling in their career, looking for purpose or thinking about making a career change, I think that gifting some sessions with SIB coaching would be the ultimate gift.

Give the gift of travel

If there’s someone in your life {maybe you} who is itching to plan their next trip, but overwhelmed by the task, let me suggest purchasing a gift certificate to my mom’s travel agency, Scorby Travel & Cruise.

You can totally customize the amount and can be put towards any adventure in the future! Email scorbytravel@gmail.com to purchase your gift certificate!

The American Blues theatre has opted to perform the classic Christmas show live on zoom and nothing is pre recorded!

It’s the closest thing you’re gonna get to seeing a live show these days and I have to say that even though it takes a minute to get accustomed to watching a performance on zoom, it really is an incredible sign of resilience in the theatre community.

Bandolier Phone Case

Bandolier cases have changed the way I travel and honestly made my life so much easier. I know it seems weird to carry your phone cross body like a purse but it’s INCREDIBLY convenient, especially when traveling. Whether you’re juggling a bunch of bags at the airport or trying to balance taking photos on your camera & iphone, having your phone handy around your shoulders is such a game changer.

These cases come in tons of styles, colors and even have handy little purse, pouch and airpod case attachments so that you essentially never have to use a purse again if you don’t want to lol.

Cashmere Blanket Scarf

I never go on any trip without one of these blanket scarfs. They are the softest, coziest thing to wrap around your shoulders on a plane, train or in the car. I also wear mine A LOT more at home at the moment…when I’m working in my office or just watching TV.

The last time I was in India I brought a BUNCH of these to give as gifts and have a few left over that I would LOVE to sell!

They come in a bunch of neutral colors and patterns and are 100% cashmere.

Alice & Wonder Chicago Sweatshirt

My love affair with this female owned, Lincoln Park boutique goes wayyyy back and it’s easily my favorite place to shop in Chicago. This is the spot to find fun, feminine, & cheeky gifts that are for the most part under $100. Make sure to check out their Mad Hatter & Chicago collections which are made in house (great gifts for guys & little ones).

This colorful Chicago sweatshirt is one of my favorite recent purchases but it’s a close tie with their holiday collection of comfy sweaters!

Lack of Color Pink Rancher Hat

There is absolutely no comparison to the Lack of Color Rancher hat. I own it in three colors that’s how much I love it lol. I recently snagged it in pink and if you follow me on IG {I hope you do ;)} you can definitely attest to just how often I’ve been wearing it LOL.

***Quick Lack of Color hack is to order it from Show Me Your Mumu so that you can skip the brutal shipping prices from Australia if you were to order directly from the site.

Nordic Beach

I AM USING ALL CAPS BECAUSE THIS IS MY FAVORITE PURCHASE I HAVE MADE IN 2020. The Nordic Beach wrap is hands down the softest, cuddliest, wrap I have ever owned. It’s like wearing a cloud around your shoulders.

These come in a bunch of colors and I’m not joking when I say that this is the first thing I put on in the morning when I wake up and many times never take it off during the day.

2020 gift guide 9.jpeg

UGG Short Boots

I love shuffling around the house in my UGGS lol. I have always been a massive fan and I think these are a great gift for anyone who is WFH and looking for a cozy comfy shoe to get them through the rest of 2020.

I toss these on for the occasional trip to the grocery store or if I’m feeling fancy I wear them to the UPS store. GASP!

Screen Shot 2020-11-28 at 8.21.10 PM.png

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

I AM PUTTING THIS OUT THERE NOW AND CLAIMING THESE AS THE “PANT” OF 2020. I’ve had these leggings for a while now and I can honestly say they are one of the most flattering, leveled up leggings on the market.

And since they’re designed by Spanx you know they’re going to suck in all your 2020 woes lol. I wear a size medium in these and they fit like a glove.

Electric Picks Cast Vintage Necklace

If something has a great origin story, or interesting fact, I’M SOLD. This small, female owned jewelry company makes these necklaces that are cast from vintage coins, keys, charms and tokens found around the world (some dating back hundreds of years!).

I recently snagged this Dahlia necklace (pictured) which is a 1943 coin from the Netherlands. The flowers found in the center symbolize happiness and abundance. HOW FUN IS THAT?!

Nasty Gal Lounge Sets {all of them}

As someone who has purchased WAY too many lounge sets from Nasty Gal, I can say that this is one of my favorite places to score affordable loungewear that’s cute and will hopefully not be our uniform for much longer. But while we wait for that day, might as well look cute. Oh an Nasty Gal ALWAYS seems to have a sale.

I love this short set because sometimes I get hot in my office.

I also LOVE this chenille set & tie dye set {because what is 2020 without tie-dye}

Their jewelry is high quality & comes in a range of prices and styles which makes them SUPER giftable (and you won’t feel guilty when you snag a few for yourself too!)

Screen Shot 2020-12-01 at 10.58.43 PM.png

Mongolian Cashmere Wrap

I recently discovered Quince which is this company that has ridiculously low prices on 100% cashmere. Basically they cut out the middle man, deliver straight from the factory and cut down on packaging. Which means amazing cashmere goodies at prices you actually don’t mind paying.

I snagged this cashmere wrap in black and I’m also eyeballing this cashmere zip up & jogger set because…2020…

Vintage Royalty

For me, this holiday shopping season has been all about supporting small, local, female, Black, POC, LGBTQ businesses {a habit I plan to carry beyond just holiday shopping}.

And by going out I mean wearing this to the grocery store with a full face of makeup & a mask.

Julia Clancey Pom Pom Mask

I’m not exaggerating that when I wear this mask, I can expect easily 10-20 compliments depending on how many people I pass on the street. Julia Clancey’s masks are one of a kind, fun, functional and just the right amount of extra.

2020 gift guide 13.jpeg

Ahida Correale ‘Oh Hey’ Mask

Finding a comfortable mask that matches your style, vibe and outfit is one of the most important fashion purchases you can make these days. Not only are these masks comfortable they’re also totally customizable.

You can get pre-made designs like this one OR you can customize your mask with your own saying! I’m thinking about getting one that says WEAR IT!

Screen Shot 2020-11-28 at 9.10.12 PM.png

Fofas Reversible Mask

A REVERSIBLE MASK?! Say what???? YUP This small female founded accessories company has created grandmillennial style face masks that come in patterns you might find in your grandma’s closet (in a good way!). They also sell the cutest mask chains which pair perfectly with your 2020 accessory of the year.

Screen Shot 2020-11-28 at 9.29.05 PM.png

Roopa Pemmaraju embroidered mask

This is by far the most beautiful mask I own and what’s even more incredible is that buying this mask gives back to the Indian artisans who make them. All the funds made from the sales of Roopa Pemmaraju masks go directly back to the artisans to support them and their families during this crisis.

It’s a win win and investment in your health and the health of others around the world.

The Adventure Awaits Bouquet

This summer I had the opportunity to co-design a travel inspired floral arrangement for FTD! The bouquet represents the first trip I took to India with my mom after I launched Alle Abroad.

The warm tones and textures represent the colors we saw at each spice market and the pink daises represent my favorite pink sari I wore in one of my favorite photos with Linda from the trip!

I wanted this bouquet to be a way for travel lovers to send the world to those who miss traveling it. Click the link below to automatically get 10% off your order ;)

Bouffants & Broken Hearts

I discovered this EPIC Black, female artist this summer and quickly ran to her Society6 page to buy 6 of her prints to decorate my office with. To say I’m in love is an understatement. Her sassy, colorful prints are reasonably priced and would make for a great gift for the color lover in your life!

Agate Cheese Board

I have wanted one of these Anthro agate cheese boards for YEARS. This year I finally pulled the trigger lol. And I can say that these are 100% worth the annoying Anthro price tag.

Sony ZV-1

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: if you are thinking about getting into videography, starting a YouTube channel or just looking to upgrade your camera, you NEED this camera. It also has this CRAZY fast autofocus and a product focus feature that makes showcasing products crystal clear!

Apple Airpods

I honestly don’t know how I existed without airpods…The thought of using headphones with a cord is the most foreign concept to me now (lol Apple does us so dirty…). But truly these are a worthwhile investment for travel, quick trips to the store or just listening to a podcast while you work.

Screen Shot 2020-12-06 at 10.35.53 PM.png

Screen Shot 2020-12-01 at 11.01.43 PM.png

The 5 Minute Journal

If you’ve been wanting to start a gratitude practice but are unsure of where to start or what to write this journal will be your new best friend. This is the exact journal I write in every day and I love how it has quick and simple prompts to keep you grateful, focused and centered on what you want to accomplish.

I honestly feel a little off if I don’t start and end my day writing in mine…and I NEVER thought I’d be the kind of person who would say that…

Screen Shot 2020-12-01 at 11.08.03 PM.png

Apple Watch

Another Apple product that should be a gift you give yourself. If working off the COVID-19 is one of your goals in the new year (me too boo) then having a gadget that tracks your steps will be a game changer for you. I also love how I can go on runs with my watch in lieu of my phone & the watch reminds me to stand and to breathe. Two things you might not think you need reminders for but when we’re all hunched over our WHF desks all day these reminders are essential.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU MADE IT TO THE END LOL!

I hope this guide was helpful to you! And if you’re looking for some small businesses to support this holiday season, make sure to check out my Small Biz Holiday Shopping Guide!
